The aircraft

The Sea Fury was a British fighter bomber developed late in the Second World War for the Royal Navy. It was the last propeller driven fighter the Navy ever operated, and one of the fastest single piston engined production aircraft ever built. Power, weight and aerodynamics that were designed for carrier combat turned out to be almost perfect for racing.

The Unlimited class at Reno is made up almost entirely of modified and stock Second World War fighters, and the Sea Fury is one of the types that defines it. Dreadnought has been part of that field for years.

The National Championship Air Races ran annually at Reno, Nevada for more than fifty years. Anyone who followed that event knows the number 8.
