Delta MD-88 N982DL

A piece of the last Mad Dog Delta ever flew. Cut from the fuselage of McDonnell Douglas MD-88, registration N982DL.

The aircraft

Delta was the largest MD-88 operator in the world and flew them longer than anyone. The type was the backbone of its domestic network for over thirty years, and passengers either loved or hated the noise from those rear mounted engines depending on where they sat.

Crews called it the Mad Dog. The name came from the MD designation and stuck across the whole DC-9 derived family.

Delta had planned to retire the MD-88 gradually through 2020. The pandemic ended that. The fleet was withdrawn in June 2020, years earlier than intended, and the aircraft went straight to storage. The last flight was a short hop with a crew who had flown the type for decades.

Choosing the Partial option

On a Partial tag the paint break falls off centre, so the split between colours sits in a different place on every single piece. The exact position, proportion and shape of the break on the tag you receive will differ from the photograph, and no two are alike.
