Piedmont's first Boeing 737, and the aircraft that set a delivery record getting there. Cut from the fuselage of N734N, later re registered N200AU under USAir.

The aircraft

In 1968 this 737-200 flew from Seattle to Wilmington, North Carolina in four hours and forty seven minutes, a record delivery flight. Christened the Piedmont Pacemaker, it entered scheduled service that June as Piedmont Airlines' first 737-200.

Piedmont had started in 1948 as a modest regional carrier. The 737 fleet is what turned it into a serious East Coast operator, and that growth is what attracted USAir, which acquired the airline in 1989 and became one of the largest carriers on the eastern seaboard.

The aircraft was re registered N200AU and flew until retirement in 1997. It then sat in the Arizona desert for twenty five years until MotoArt recovered it in 2022.
