The aircraft

The Puma was developed for the French Army and then adopted far more widely, including by the RAF, which flew it for decades. It is a medium lift transport helicopter, twin engined, able to carry around sixteen troops or an equivalent load.

The J model is the civil certified variant, and those aircraft ended up doing some of the hardest work in the industry: oil rig support, heavy lift construction, firefighting and humanitarian operations in places with no infrastructure.

Helicopter tags are uncommon. Rotorcraft are usually stripped for parts rather than preserved, and the airframes see punishing service before they retire.
