An agricultural aircraft, and a rare thing to find as a tag. Cut from a Piper PA-36 Pawnee Brave.

The aircraft

Almost every tag on the market comes from an airliner or a fighter. This one comes from a crop duster.

The Pawnee Brave was built for one job: flying a few metres above a field at low speed, all day, in heat and turbulence, spraying and spreading. Piper designed it around the pilot surviving a crash, with the cockpit set high and back behind a steel cage and the hopper mounted ahead of it.

Agricultural aviation is unglamorous and genuinely difficult flying, and in Australia it is a substantial part of the industry. Anyone who has worked ag or watched it from a farm gate will know exactly what this airframe did.

These aircraft are worked hard and rarely preserved, which makes surviving material scarce.
