A piece of the only commercial jetliner Lockheed ever built. Cut from the fuselage of L-1011 TriStar, registration N786DL, flown by Delta.

The aircraft

Lockheed built the TriStar once and never built another airliner. The programme was a technical success and a commercial disaster: the Rolls Royce RB211 engine development bankrupted its maker, delaying the aircraft long enough for the DC-10 to take the market. Only 250 were completed.

Technically it was ahead of everything else flying. It had the first autoland system certified for zero visibility approaches in commercial service, and a direct lift control system that made it notably smooth on approach. Pilots rated it highly.

Delta was the largest TriStar operator in the world, flying more than fifty of them across domestic and international routes until the last one retired in 2001.

Choosing the Partial option

On a Partial tag the paint break falls off centre, so the split between colours sits in a different place on every single piece. The exact position, proportion and shape of the break on the tag you receive will differ from the photograph, and no two are alike.

What you receive

  • One PlaneTag cut from the actual fuselage of N786DL
  • Laser etched with the aircraft type and registration
  • Numbered as part of a limited edition, on its display card
  • Durable metal ring for keys, luggage or display
