The aircraft that helped make China Airlines a global carrier. Cut from the fuselage of Airbus A340-300, registration B-18801.

The aircraft

B-18801 first flew on 4 March 2001 and was delivered that April. It was one of six A340-300s China Airlines operated, and the first the airline ordered directly from Airbus rather than acquiring second hand.

The A340-300 was a long haul aircraft built for comfort and range, and it is the type that let China Airlines push out into international markets and establish itself as a major carrier. Four engines, transoceanic reach, and the kind of cabin that was expected on those routes at the time.

It was retired to Victorville, California in March 2015.

Exotic colours

These tags come from sections of the fuselage carrying unusual colour combinations, which is why they are described as exotic rather than standard livery cuts.
