Beechcraft Starship 2000A N515JS

Beechcraft bought these back and destroyed almost all of them. Cut from Beechcraft Starship 2000A, registration N515JS, and there is a real argument that this is the rarest airframe in the entire PlaneTags catalogue.

The aircraft

The Starship looked like nothing else. A canard at the nose, pusher turboprops at the back, winglets carrying the tail surfaces, and an airframe built almost entirely from carbon fibre composite at a time when nobody was doing that in certified aviation. Burt Rutan designed it. Beechcraft built it.

It was a commercial failure. Certification of a composite canard proved enormously expensive, the aircraft came out heavier and slower than promised, and only 53 were completed.

What happened next is the part collectors care about. Beechcraft decided that supporting a tiny fleet indefinitely was not viable, bought back as many Starships as owners would sell, and scrapped them. A handful survive in museums and a few private hands.

Choosing the Partial option

On a Partial tag the paint break falls off centre, so the split between colours sits in a different place on every single piece. The exact position, proportion and shape of the break on the tag you receive will differ from the photograph, and no two are alike.

A note on the material

Because the airframe is largely composite, tags from this aircraft look and feel different from ordinary aluminium tags.
