B-1B BOMBER # 82-0001 - 2nd Edition - GREEN

Cut from the very first B-1B Lancer ever built. Serial 82-0001, in green, from a second edition released after additional sections of the aircraft came to light.

The aircraft

The B-1 first flew in December 1974. The programme was cancelled in 1977, then revived under President Reagan, and the B-1B entered service in October 1984. 82-0001 was the first of them.

The variable sweep wing is what defines it. Wings forward for takeoff, landing, refuelling and high altitude weapon release; swept back for high subsonic and supersonic flight. That flexibility let one airframe do jobs that would otherwise need two.

The Lancer moved from strategic nuclear deterrent to conventional combat aircraft and stayed in service with Air Force Global Strike Command for four decades, waiting on the arrival of the B-21.

Second edition

MotoArt released 1,000 B-1B tags from this airframe in 2017. Further sections of the same aircraft surfaced later, and this second edition was cut from those.
