A piece of Mexican regional aviation. Cut from the fuselage of McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30, registration XA-SWH, flown by Aero California.

The aircraft

Aero California operated out of La Paz in Baja California Sur, connecting the peninsula with mainland Mexico and border cities in the United States. It flew an all DC-9 fleet, in a bright red livery that was hard to miss on a ramp.

The airline ceased operations in 2008, so like Eastern and TWA, nothing more will ever wear that scheme.

The DC-9-30 was the stretched, most numerous version of the type and the one that did most of the world's short haul jet flying through the 1970s and 80s.

XA registrations are Mexican, and Latin American airframes are unusual in a collection dominated by North American and European aircraft.

Choosing the Partial option

On a Partial tag the paint break falls off centre, so the split between colours sits in a different place on every single piece. The exact position, proportion and shape of the break on the tag you receive will differ from the photograph, and no two are alike.

What you receive

  • One PlaneTag cut from the actual fuselage of XA-SWH
  • Laser etched with the aircraft type and registration
  • Numbered as part of a limited edition, on its display card
  • Durable metal ring for keys, luggage or display

Please read before ordering
