A Folland Gnat wing from N572XR has hung above the MotoArt Studio since MotoArt owner Dave Hall acquired it in 2011. In 2022, Hall decided it was time to bring it down and share this iconic symbol with the rest of the world. Introducing Folland Gnat PlaneTags from MotoArt.
The iconic Folland Gnat is a small, swept wing subsonic fighter, built in the United Kingdom by Folland Aircraft. The Gnat was designed to be a compact, simplified fighter aircraft that could be manufactured inexpensively and with tools and facilities accessible to less industrialized nations. Gnats were purchased or licensed to build by export customers, including Finland, India, and Yugoslavia who flew the Gnat in both combat and training capacities. 449 were built. They were adopted by the Royal Air Force as trainers, then later flown by their Yellowjacks and Red Arrows aerobatic display teams.
*IMPORTANT NOTICE – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because they are made from real fuselage, each one bears the colour, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will have a limited option to select the colour of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
